NZR Patented 5th Wheel Compound Hitch
Designed as an optional connection between the tractor and semi-trailers and allowing for a dromedary extension to the semi-trailer for increased capacity. The normal articulating hitch remains operational for conventional type hook-up. However the “Compound Hitch” will not allow the semi-trailer to rotate at the 5th wheel and moves this rotation (articulation) back to the stinger or turntable located on the trailer and behind the drive axle or axles. With this type of connection the tractor is restricted to 52° of rotation which is sufficient to make all maneuvers on or off highway.
Benefits when used with Semi-trailers:
- No full jackknife damage to the tractor cab
- Greater cubic capacity with a longer semi-trailer
- Dromedary an extention of the trailer Approx 20%
- Improves fuel economy approx. 5%
- Better off-tracking and maneuverability approx 50%
- Shorter forward length approx 20%
- Universal application non-distructive technology
Benefits when used with straight trucks:
- Multiple ancillary equipment applications
- Various types of bodies min 3:1 ratio
- All work trucks are tractors
- Reduces capital investment improves ROI
